Impact Grants
Beginning in 2006,
the Foundation has funded 1-3 large Impact Grants per year, totaling
approximately $50,000, to qualifying organizations that fall within
the scope of our Priority
Categories. In addition to the size of the amount granted (our
usual grants range from $1,000 - $5,000), an Impact Grant differs from
our annual grants in the following ways:
1) An Impact Grant is awarded for a one-time-only endeavor where significant
funding at a critical moment in your fundraising will make a transformational
difference to the life of your organization and your community.
2) An Impact Grant may be spread over two to three years. This enables the Foundation to increase its financial impact, and the recipient to concentrate on manifesting the project, rather than on annual fund-raising efforts. Upon being awarded an impact grant, the recipient organization must complete and return to us the following TERMS and CONDITIONS (not required when a standard grant is awarded)
3) The success of an Impact Grant is measured not in dollars, but by the success of a project as defined by the grant's recipients - how it has made a difference in the lives of those who benefit from it. The question we ask you to answer is, "How do we know when we have succeeded?" Sometimes the success will be marked by something intangible but definitely valuable, such as "the light in the eyes of the children watching our program." During the term of the grant, we will require the recipient to keep us posted, in an informal way, as to the progress of the project.
4) An Impact Grant is emphatically NOT merely a large amount
of money for an
ordinary purpose such as a request for $25,000 for new wiring.
